According to latest meteorological forecasts, the European aviation authorities have decided the airspace over Bologna, Milan, Pisa, Turin and Porto to be closed/restricted during Sunday 9 May. There is also a possibility that airspace over Knock airport (Ireland) may be closed from 17:00 GMT today. Six Scottish airports (Inverness, Wick, Kirkwall, Stornoway, Benbecula, Barra) have been closed until at least 1200 GMT. Spanish airspace was returning to normal on Sunday, with the last three of 19 airports closed on Saturday due to reopen at midday - Santiago de Compostela, Vigo and La Coruna. France had cancelled the at Nice airport. Update 1430 CET - Switzerland: Flights to Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, Britain and Hungary were cancelled at Geneva airport. Zurich airport listed flights to Washington, Dublin and Porto as canceled. The recent images have shown activity in the volcano increasing therefore more disruptions and cancellations are expected in the following days. |
