UPDATE: Irish aiports opening today |
|
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) was forced to shut the airports after an increased level of recent volcanic activity created a massive ash cloud 1,000 miles long and 700 miles wide, but Shannon, Donegal, Sligo, Ireland West (Knock), Galway and Kerry were
given the green light to restart schedules today, after 1000 GMT. However, based on current IAA and meteorological forecasts there is a possibility of some disruption to schedules to/from the West of Ireland airport later on Sunday evening.
NEW: A new volcanic ash cloud is approaching the northwest corner of the
Iberian Peninsula and threatening air traffic in that area, as announced
today by the European Agency for Safety of Air Navigation
(Eurocontrol). There is a possibility
of flight disruptions to/from North-West Iberian Peninsula
airport’s including Madrid, Porto, Santiago, Santander, Valladolid and
Zaragoza on Saturday morning.
