UPDATE: Ireland and UK re-open the airspace |
|
The IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) has lifted the flying ban from 1300 GMT. All Irish and Northern Ireland airports including Belfast International, Belfast City, Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Knock, Donegal, Waterford, Kerry, Galway and Sligo were closed due to a threat of a ash cloud heading from Iceland. The IAA said it reversed its decision to close its airspace because Ireland was not falling within the area of ash concentrations that exceeded safety levels. The situation will be reviewed later as winds are forecast to continue coming for the next few days and this could lead to further problems.
